The European Day of Languages on 26th September will be celebrated for the second time on the Brussels metro with a collection of 24 European poems displayed in the wagons of the metro and in the STIB Gallery at the Botanique station where the opening of the exhibition will be held on the 26th September at 17:00. Here you will also be able to meet 7 of the participating poets: Eri
c Piette (BE), Gueorgui Konstantinov (BG), Xóchil A. Schütz (DE), Onno Kosters (NL), Mevlüt Ceylan (TR) et Luna Miquel (ES), Radu Vancu (RU).
24 poems in their 21 original languages will be also translated into French and Dutch and shown in the Gallery of the Botanique station until the end of November but also on stickers inside the metro wagons until 22 October.
This project entitled ‘TRANSPOESIE’ is organized by EUNIC in Brussels, the network of European Cultural Institutes, in partnership with the Brussels public transport system STIB / MIVB and with the support of Lotterie Nationale. This exhibition is an opportunity for those on the move to discover the work of European poets and celebrate the diversity of languages and cultures, making daily life a whole new experience.
The theme of the second year is the intergenerational relationships, since 2012 was declared the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. With this in mind, the metro, a place where people meet and bump into one another, would seem to lend itself perfectly to breaking down obstacles between different generations, as it allows for three million users of all ages to find out more about issues related to the ageing process for baby boomers and the notion of solidarity.
